Acai extracts show brain health potential

Extracts from acai, blueberries and strawberries may enhance the ‘neuronal housekeeping function’ and potentially protect the brain as we age, suggests new research.

The brain’s natural housekeeping mechanism is called autophagy and involves the controlled degradation of cells, including the recycling of toxic proteins. This system declines naturally as we age, but new research suggests that berry extracts may enhance the process and contributes towards brain health.

Antioxidants for eye health

Being able to see clearly is a precious gift, and one that we often take for granted. How different would your life be if you couldn’t read, drive, or see the faces of your family and friends?

What’s a superfood?

There’s no scientific definition of a superfood and the term itself is somewhat controversial.

In fact, some nutritionists and dietitians believe that the word shouldn’t be used at all. They argue that labelling some foods as ‘super’ will make other foods appear less appealing or worthwhile. Since variety is the key to a nutritious, balanced diet, they’re concerned that some people might favour ‘superfoods’ and exclude other foods from their diets altogether, leading to an excess of some nutrients and a shortfall of others. The term has even been banned on food packaging in some countries.

RioLife Acai gets out and about

One thing we love doing at RioLife is getting to share the amazing Acai Berry with as many people as we can. Over the past couple of weeks we were lucky enough to attend the Organic Expo and Green show in Darling Harbour and the Ultimate Health Event out at Homebush. Many people got to try our tasty Acai, mixed with a bit of apple and mango juice it was delicious.

As usual our Acai got great attention with many people trying the wonderful Acai Berry for the first time, it was great to see so many people impressed with our product and even some people knew how to pronounce it correctly:) We at RioLife love talking about the many great things Acai has to offer us for our energy and health it is great to see so many people interested in foods like this.

Thanks to all those who came to visit us at our RioLife stall was great to see so many people at both the events as well as getting to meet so many other great business owners and see so many great new products. The organic food industry is truly starting to take off, it is a very exciting time for this industry.

Acai Berry benefits cholesterol levels: Rat Study

The pulp of acai berries may counter the effects of a high-fat diet and reduce the risk of developing high blood cholesterol levels, says a new study with rats from Brazil.
Animals fed a high-fat diet and supplemented with acai pulp had lower levels of total and non-HDL cholesterol, compared to animals just eating a high-fat diet, according to findings published in Nutrition.
